Canadian Dental Care Plan
CDCP
What it is
A federal program for Canadians who don't have access to employer or private dental insurance and whose household income falls under the eligibility threshold. It's the largest driver of new patients accessing dental care in rural Ontario.
Who qualifies
- Filed Canadian taxes as a resident
- No access to employer or private dental insurance
- Household income under $90,000 per year

Interim Federal Health Program
IFHP
What it is
The Interim Federal Health Program provides temporary health coverage — including dental — for refugees, refugee claimants, protected persons, and certain other newcomers to Canada. It is administered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and billed through Medavie Blue Cross.

What to bring
Your IRCC eligibility document — this may be an Acknowledgement of Claim (AoC) letter, a Refugee Protection Claimant Document (RPCD), or a Refugee Protection Identification Document (RPID).
Dental coverage includes

- Pain relief and infection treatment
- Dental injury treatment
Public Programs
Coverage for low-income Ontarians, disability support recipients, and Indigenous patients.
Healthy Smiles Ontario
Provincial dental program for low-income Ontario residents and families. Covers routine preventive and restorative care.
ODSP & Ontario Works
Dental coverage for Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works recipients.
Non-Insured Health Benefits
Federal dental benefits for First Nations and Inuit peoples registered with Health Canada.
Many uninsured patients may qualify for CDCP and not know it. We can help you check eligibility during your visit.
Private Insurance
Most working-age patients with employer dental benefits fall here.
