Anxiety & Sedation.
Dental anxiety is real, valid, and incredibly common. If fear has kept you away from the dentist, you have found a safe place here in Hastings, Ontario.
We provide a completely judgment-free environment.
We don't care how long it has been since your last visit, and we will never lecture you about your teeth. Our only goal is to help you get healthy — comfortably, at your pace, on your terms.
Our practice was built with anxious patients in mind. From the moment you contact us, you're in control. We explain everything before it happens, stop the moment you raise your hand, and only proceed when you're ready.
What is nitrous oxide sedation?
Also called "laughing gas," nitrous oxide is a safe, mild sedative inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. Within a few minutes, you'll feel relaxed, warm, and calm — slightly detached from the situation, but fully awake and able to communicate.
The key advantage: the effects wear off completely within five to ten minutes after the mask is removed. Most patients can drive themselves home afterwards. There are no injections, no hangovers, and no recovery time. It's appropriate for adults and children alike, and has been used safely in dentistry for over a century.
Is nitrous oxide right for me?
Nitrous oxide works well for patients with mild to moderate dental anxiety, a sensitive gag reflex, or those who simply want to take the edge off. It's also useful for longer appointments where sitting still for an extended period is a concern.
It's not suitable for everyone — patients who are pregnant, have certain respiratory conditions, or have a history of substance use issues should discuss their situation with us before proceeding. We review your medical history at every appointment to confirm suitability.
What about IV moderate sedation?
For patients with more significant dental anxiety, a complex treatment plan, or a very sensitive gag reflex, IV moderate sedation delivers a deeper level of relaxation through a small IV line. You remain conscious and responsive, but deeply calm — many patients have little or no memory of the appointment afterwards.
IV sedation is available through our sister clinic network. We can coordinate the referral and ensure a seamless handoff. A designated driver is required for all IV sedation appointments. Learn more on our Sedation & Comfort page.
What can I expect on the day?
Control. That's the most important thing we can offer. Before we do anything, we talk. We'll go over your concerns, explain exactly what's planned, and confirm you're comfortable with each step. If you need a break mid-procedure, raise your hand and we stop — no questions, no pressure.
We ensure you are thoroughly and completely numb before any treatment begins. No one should ever feel pain during dental work, and we take that commitment seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is nitrous oxide sedation safe?
Yes. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) has been used safely in dentistry for over a century. It's delivered through a small mask placed over your nose, and the dosage is carefully controlled throughout your appointment. It is appropriate for most healthy adults and children. We review your medical history before using it to confirm it's suitable for you.
Can I drive myself home after nitrous oxide?
Yes. One of the main advantages of nitrous oxide is that its effects wear off within minutes after the mask is removed. Most patients feel completely normal within five to ten minutes and can safely drive themselves home. This is different from IV sedation, which requires a designated driver.
What is IV moderate sedation, and is it available here?
IV moderate sedation delivers sedative medication directly into your bloodstream via a small IV line. You remain conscious but deeply relaxed — many patients have little to no memory of the procedure. This level of sedation is available through our sister clinic network for patients with significant dental anxiety, complex treatment needs, or a sensitive gag reflex. We can refer and coordinate the appointment.
What if I'm too embarrassed to tell you how scared I am?
Please don't be. Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people avoid care — you are absolutely not alone, and we have heard every version of this conversation. There is zero judgment here. The earlier you tell us, the better we can prepare an appointment that actually works for you.
Do you accept CDCP for appointments that include sedation?
The CDCP covers eligible dental procedures — sedation coverage depends on the specific treatment being performed and the patient's plan details. Nitrous oxide itself may not be separately covered, but the underlying dental work often is. We will review your coverage and give you a clear written breakdown before your appointment.
