General Dentistry.
The foundation of a beautiful smile is a healthy mouth. We provide comprehensive general dental care to families across Hastings and Trent Hills, Ontario — preserving your natural teeth and preventing future issues.
At Your Hastings Dentist, we focus on prevention and early detection.
Regular checkups allow us to catch potential problems when they are small, saving you time, discomfort, and money in the long run. We use modern, gentle techniques to ensure every procedure is as comfortable as possible.
We're proud to be one of the few dental practices in Northumberland County that accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), ODSP, IFHP, and Healthy Smiles Ontario — making routine care accessible to more families in Hastings, Campbellford, Norwood, Havelock, and beyond.
Do you accept CDCP for general dental care?
Yes. We are an enrolled CDCP provider and bill Sun Life directly. Most preventative services — exams, X-rays, and cleanings — are fully covered for eligible patients under the plan. You pay nothing upfront for the covered portion. If there is a co-pay or a balance above the fee grid, we'll tell you in writing before any work begins.
We also accept ODSP, Ontario Works, NIHB, Healthy Smiles Ontario, IFHP, and most private insurance plans. Direct billing available for most carriers.
What happens at a routine dental exam?
Your exam begins with a full review of your medical history and any concerns you have. We take digital low-radiation X-rays as needed, then perform a thorough clinical assessment: checking each tooth for decay or structural issues, measuring gum pocket depths, screening for oral cancer, and evaluating your bite and jaw joints.
Your dentist will walk you through every finding using plain language — no jargon, no pressure. If treatment is recommended, you'll receive a written plan with clear costs before we proceed.
How often should I book a checkup?
Most healthy adults benefit from a visit every six months. Patients with active gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, dry mouth, or certain systemic conditions (diabetes, for example) may need to come in every three to four months for a period. We'll give you a personalised recall interval at your first visit.
What if I have dental anxiety?
We understand that fear is one of the most common reasons people avoid the dentist. Our entire approach is built around reducing that anxiety. We explain every step before it happens, move at your pace, and ensure you are thoroughly numb before we start anything. We also offer nitrous oxide sedation for patients who need a little extra help relaxing. There is no judgment — only care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for general dental visits?
Yes. Your Hastings Dentist is an enrolled CDCP provider and bills Sun Life directly on your behalf. Most routine checkups and cleanings are fully covered for eligible patients. No upfront payment is required for the covered portion. Check your eligibility at canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental.
How often should I visit the dentist for a checkup?
Most adults benefit from a checkup and cleaning every six months. Patients with gum disease, a history of cavities, or certain medical conditions may need more frequent visits. We'll give you a personalised recommendation at your first appointment.
Do I need X-rays at every visit?
No. We take X-rays based on clinical need — typically a full set every three years and bitewings (small check X-rays) every year or two. We use digital, low-radiation sensors that expose you to a fraction of the dose of older film X-rays.
What if I haven't been to a dentist in a long time?
You're in the right place. We see patients who haven't had dental care in years — sometimes decades — and we never lecture or judge. We simply take stock of where things stand and build a practical, prioritised plan to get you healthy at a pace that works for you.
Do you see patients from Campbellford, Norwood, and other nearby towns?
Absolutely. We welcome patients from Hastings, Campbellford, Norwood, Havelock, Stirling, Warkworth, Marmora, and all of Trent Hills and Northumberland County. We're one of the few clinics in the area that accepts CDCP, ODSP, IFHP, and Healthy Smiles Ontario.
